"Portrait of a Bear"

Today I'm showing you a portrait of a bear. You know that I love painting animals. This one is one of my favourites, because it allowed me to experiment with using the texture of the board to make the fur more interesting. I hope you like it too :)

"Portrait of a Bear", 17x23cm, oil on board

See you all next week!

    1. So did mine when I was painting it :) In fact I always feel as if I was stroking the furry animal with my brush when I'm painting one ;)

    1. Thank you, Carolyn, I'm very happy you think so. The light on the fur was difficult to capture, but it turned out well in the end. I must say, I'm really proud of it :)
      Happy October to you too!

  3. I really like the bear! I'm glad you labeled it "oil" because I was wondering, and I don't have enough knowledge of art to know what I'm seeing.

    1. I used the paint in an unconventional way, as if the painting was more like a drawing, so you were absolutely right to wonder about it, Terry. Anyway, I'm glad you like it. Have a great weekend!

  4. This bear you have painted looks like a happy bear. A very beautiful job as we run into bears all the time here in Eastern Canada. The fur is most life like and well done Marielle.

    1. Thank you, Saucy. I do admire bears, but I don't live anywhere near them, so I'm very happy to hear a compliment from someone who is more familiar with them. Anyway, take care when meeting any bears, Saucy, I know they can be dangerous. Have a lovely and safe weekend :)

  5. Dear Marielle - I do like your bear. What captures my eye is the light hitting his right side. Very beautiful. Hope you are having a great day.
