"Titanic"

This is a painting I made for my nephew, who really likes history and has become very interested in the Titanic's story recently. It's a popular subject and we all know what happened to the Titanic, but I usually feel more comfortable if I make a bit of research before picking up my brush. It always makes me feel the subject better. In this case it was especially important, because I had to deal with a tragedy of so many people... I wanted to approach the painting with a true compassion and respect and express the inevitable doom of the Titanic without any drastic scenes, as the picture was requested by and intended for a child.

  1. It is beautiful and I have no doubt that he will treasure it. I love the hint of the ice (and foreboding) in the background and the absence of melodrama.

  2. That is a wonderful atmospheric painting of the Titanic which I hope your nephew will enjoy. If he ever gets the chance he should visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast, Ireland. He would love it, and it is where the Titanic was built.

  3. I read an original history book about the Titanic many years ago as a young girl. I was fascinated with the survivors stories and have always been keen on any updates. A true tragedy of the times, a ship that was the best built and unsinkable. This book is on my shelf. You have done an outstanding job in this painting - stunning.

    1. Thank you so much, Saucy:)
It's a shocking, disturbing and moving story. Any tragedy is, I think, but this one is so complex that it changed the world forever. Even a hundred years later it makes us ask many serious questions.
